Judith, who lost her husband already in her youth, spent the rest of her life in severe penance and continuous prayer. When her people decided to capitulate before the enemy, she believed that God was calling her to action. It was her deep faith in Yahweh that enabled her to march into the enemy camp, risking her reputation and her very life. The name “Judith” is the feminine form of “Judah”.
